5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Electric Tea Kettle, September 19, 2011

My main reason for ordering the Hot Pot is that it is made from stainless steel and I am reluctant to boil water in one of the competing plastic pots since I fear the chemical leaching potential of electric plastic kettles. I wanted to add this review to the ones already listed to add some further information. On reading the earlier reviews, I could not get the answer to how fast the tea kettle will bring water to a boil. One review said that it is slower when set on the 120 volt mode for the US and that is where I will be using it primarily. I use it to boil water for my French Press coffee pot mostly which requires 16 ounces of water to make a full pot (19 ounce french press). 16 ounces of water boils in 3 minutes here at 3000 feet altitude while the full pot (to the "MAX" mark inside the pot) boils in just about 4 minutes. Then the pot clicks off, the light on the handle goes out and water has come to a full rolling boil. By contrast, my 1200 Watt microwave takes about 5 minutes... Read more

the kettle is good size for one or 2 person , i boiled water in it for 3 times, as it asks you to do before using it. on the second time the inside bottom of the kettle changed color , lots of small grayish round dots , i am not sure if this is the best stainless steel, or mine is a lemon . it dos not say any where,on the pot or the documentaion of what number of steel it is . it boil water very quickly , i wish it did not turned color.
the on and off switch is a bit flimsy , and is hard to see if it is on or off , over all for the price , it could be better made.
seller told me that send me a return slip .still waiting .
UP date!
return lable came a bit late , but since this kettle so cute i decided to keep it BUT!!!
after a month wires shorted and spark was coming out loud noise and smelling burnt wire . i am returning it . this did not work well at all for me , i wish it did.

update: i have to add that seller is good . responded to me and refund... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!, November 12, 2011

This review is from: Narita International Electric Hot Pot Water Kettle 1000W Dual Voltage 120V/240V 0.7L (NTK-007)
I scoured the internet for days looking for a small, streamlined, non-clunky, non-plastic hot pot that held a quart or less of water for my daughter's desk at work. The hardest part was the non-clunky, non-plastic part! This little number is great! It heats water to a rolling boil in less than 3 minutes and then shuts off automatically and can only be restarted by pushing the reset button...so no accidental boiling dry or overheating. The outside of the pot does get hot!...but that's what being metal is all about. It's no worse than a percolator type coffee pot and is much like a small, streamlined percolator but with no basket or clunky dangling things to get in the way or snag on things or get lost. It's simply a nice little pot with a lid.

The only drawback I can foresee is that the cord is permanently wired into the base of the pot...no way to replace the cord, as you can do with an electric percolator by just going to the hardware store and getting a replacement... Read more

The product was not nearly as nice as the Breville SK500XL Ikon Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle we bought when this one suddenly stopped working after six months.

First of all, if you showed me this kettle and asked me what it was made of, my first reaction would be "shiny metal-look plastic."

Second of all, after it completely conked out after only six months of moderate use, the seller, PRESENTS FOR US, completely ignored all my communications trying to get the product replaced.

Third of all, I emailed Kalorik no less than four times in an attempt to take advantage of their alleged "one year warranty" and once again, received absolutely zero response.

At the end of the day, I would never purchase another product from PRESENTS FOR US nor would I buy anything from Kalorik. There are so many better options.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing..., June 5, 2008
By
Mike (Enterprise, AL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kalorik Aqua Line Cordless 60-Oz. Kettle, Silver/Clear (Kitchen)
What we have here is just another made in China item from an unworthy manufacturer.
1) This "stainless steel / glass" kettle does contain small plastic parts on the inside below the water line.
2) While there is a plate on the inside at the bottom over the heating element, the plate seems to be made of an inferior material. It developed spots (looks like rust to me) after the first couple of uses.
3) There is a gap / seam around that plate on the inside at the bottom where water can collect and stay in invisible / inaccessible places.
4) These parts of the kettle are just about impossible to wipe down because of narrow height of the kettle and lid design.
5) Some water will always stay in the kettle no matter how you try to empty it because of lid / spout design.
6) Not made in USA
The kettle retains a 2nd star since it does boil water quickly and does seem solid. The design of the external base is pleasing. The toggle switch on the kettle... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars beautiful design, poor quality control, May 3, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Kalorik Aqua Line Cordless 60-Oz. Kettle, Silver/Clear (Kitchen)
I was looking for a kettle with no plastic-water contact. This one is
aesthetically pleasing and uses only a little plastic. Unfortunately, mine
will not boil water because the sensor shuts off as soon as the water even
begins to get warm. Poor quality control! It's going back of course.

The top is glass but contains various plastic parts inside. Also, there
is the ubiquitous plastic water level gizmo, which is really unneeded in
this design, since the top is so easy to open (push the thumb button).
If the manufacturer got rid of the water level thing and a little more
plastic inside, and also got their switches and sensors under control, it
could be a winner. As it is, don't bother.

This review is from: Chef's Choice M677SSG Cordless Electric Kettle-Stainless Steel Gray (Kitchen)
I grew up in Europe with electric kettles so I think I know what to expect. I had to return the M677, as it took too long to turn off. I called their customer service and they said it should take an average of 12 seconds to turn off. The average for mine to click off was 1 minute and 15 seconds (timed only after coming to a vigorous boil with steam escaping). It didn't matter if it was full or not. Only once did it click off in less than one minute. Once I came downstairs and it was still boiling away, I was not sure for how long it was boiling so I decided to return it.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt (their customer service was good - a real human picked up in a few seconds), I replaced it with a model M678 which is a little larger, and its average click off time is 35 seconds. It still feels like it's too slow to click off and most of the time I flick it up manually, but at least I feel I can trust it to turn off if I leave the room. (My old dead Russell Hobbs would... Right - this thing's a tank.

I've used this kettle at least once a day for the last six years now and I'm just now smelling burnt plastic when I try to use it. It's pretty much at the end of its life, but it still boils water much faster than the largest burner on my stove top. For the first five and a half years that I've owned this kettle, I've never had any problems with it. It's very portable. I used to constantly tote it back and forth from home to work.

I see only three shortcomings that keep this from being a GREAT kettle. Otherwise I have no serious complaints and would recommend this kettle.

The metal sides become very hot.

The cord's a bit finicky. It's hard to wind up out of the way, and once you do, it just unravels again.

The spout's overlarge. It's really easy to dump two cups of boiling water all over the place just trying to fill a small teacup. It's not so much a problem, as it is just plain annoying. You have to... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great for making a thermos of green tea, August 26, 2006

This review is from: Chef's Choice M677SSG Cordless Electric Kettle-Stainless Steel Gray (Kitchen)
We have had this thing for most of a year now, and have used it every day to make a big pot of green tea. Here are some tips on doing that.

We bought a 2.2 liter pump thermos. Yes, this kettle is 1.7 liter, but wait. Every day we throw in 5 bags of green tea and a little less than a cup of cold water. Careful how you rip off the string so you don't open up the bags; we find that holding the staple between finger and thumb while pulling the string keeps the bag intact. We somewhat overfill this kettle (no sign of a problem ever) with water to the middle of the circle you'll see on the inside, bring that to a boil, and add it to the thermos.

With green tea you do *not* want to add boiling water, because it makes the tea bitter. But the bit of cold water you put in first brings the temperature down just enough, and adds enough volume that it fills the 2.2L container. That's one day of tea for the two of us -- imagine the antioxidants! Note that the tea... Read more
