I read some professional reviews of kettles and decided that I wasn't inclined to pay $60 - $100 to replace one that could just as easily decide not to work, but I did use those reviews to determine what factors I wanted to consider in my purchase. I'm more than happy with this Home Image Electric Kettle!Some facts not apparent from the description: The kettle has an oval footprint -- it's narrower than long -- so the base plate requires less horizontal real estate on your counter. The opening IS large enough to reach your hand into (not that you should do this while the water is boiling). This kettle had no reviews, but I decided to take a chance, since it looked nice and the price was right. In person, it does look like a nice appliance that you would want to leave out on your counter, but most importantly, it boils water incredibly fast. Based on other kettles and hotpots, I expected something like 4-5 minutes, but this kettle starts simmering after about 15 seconds, with a rolling boil not long after. None of the parts feel flimsy, since it is mostly stainless steel, so I expect it to last.
