The outside of the kettle stays cool while the water inside boils. Heating the water to boiling only takes a few minutes which is nice when you have a hungry preschooler waiting for their Ramen noodles. I live in Wisconsin so I am partial to purchasing Westbend products as they are known for their reputation/durablity over the long haul. This tea kettle only shuts off when the water has totally evaporated. I use it all the time. This kettle is great quality for the price, and it heats water FAST. It is also very well insulated and has not affected any surface I put it on. The whistle is very convenient, and it will automatically shut off if the water has boiled dry. Great item, especially for a dorm room! Recommended.
